About Fort Discovery
Located on Discovery Bay between Sequim and Port Townsend, WA, Fort Discovery offers 3,700 unrestricted acres of waterfront and uplands. This site rising from sea level to 1,850', offers a full mission profile training environment from sea to high ground. As the crow flies, Fort Discovery is only 35 miles from all major military locations in the Puget Sound region. Water depths range from 360' at the entrance to Discovery Bay to an average depth of 150' allowing for large vessel access. Also, FD has two docks one of which can take small boat traffic or be incorporated in training scenarios.
Historically, Fort Discovery is a tree growing farm which has been privately held in the tree growing business for four generations. When SSNW moved its business onsite in the late 1980's we immediately recognized the potential of developing a training facility and have continued training our own personnel onsite since 1988. The area is surrounded by water and forest covered mountain range. This allows for private and exclusive training opportunities for regular and special operations groups. Captain Vancouver recognized our location as a prime military location as early as May of 1792. He and his explorers as well as his Marines camped at Ft. Discovery for 20 days at which time he named the bay after his vessel the "Discovery".
